Welcome to Cheaper Than Therapy, a newsletter for 80s babies by Shani Silver.
This is inspired by beautiful women. I will not serve the word “beautiful” to you gently on a silk pillow, you know who I’m talking about. Conventionally, commercially, exclusively beautiful women who make the rest of us look like drain clogs. I said what I said, and that’s what I mean in this moment when I say “beautiful.” I want to talk about how often and how brazenly the world’s beautiful women are degraded by men so that maybe this community will stop trying to be perfect enough for a man to want them, choose them, and treat them well. Men do whatever they want to the “perfect” ones, too, so maybe we can fucking relax. It was never about how we look, it will always be about who they are. Your appearance, beauty, youth, etc. will never be responsible for the behavior of others. We are going to get that shit straight right now.
It’s safe to categorize myself as an extremely online and present person, but I don’t involve myself in celebrity gossip and drama on the internet. My lane is very different, and most of the time I’m quite content to stay within it, focusing on women’s mental health and wellbeing around farcical narratives that have shamed us for no reason our entire lives. A unique intersection has arisen. I just found out Holly Madison’s boyfriend cheated on her ten times.
